In the middle of the 18th Century, it was noticed by a health officer in Poland, named Felix Botchkowski, that workers in salt mines, such as that in Wieliczka, did not appear to suffer from respiratory complaint, and whose wellbeing was better than might be expected in their working environment. This observation lead him to research the phenomenon and resulted in his publishing of ‘About the breathing of Salt Dust’.
Salt Therapy Spa & Wellness Centre is Ireland’s premier provider of salt therapy services. Opened in Malahide, Co Dublin in May 2010 and in Blackrock in February 2011, we have provided relief for almost 5,000 sufferers of asthma, sinusitis, hayfever, eczema and other respiratory, skin and allergic conditions.
There are a wide variety of conditions that can affect the respiratory tract. These can range from the common cold to Sinusitis, Allergic Rhinitis, Bronchitis and Pneumonia. Other conditions that affect the airways include Asthma, COPD, Bronchiectasis, Emphysema. One common symptom of these conditions is the build up of a sticky mucus in the airways. Sodium chloride works to break down this congestion by fluidising the mucus. It is this process that is key to the benefit that is provided by salt therapy.
